Will you be cracking my back?
When someone talks about “back cracking” they are usually talking about a chiropractic adjustment or manipulation. These are specific treatments that increase the pain free movement of a joint. They can be associated with a popping or cracking noise as a joint cavitation occurs.
Chiropractic adjustments are very effective at reducing pain and improving joint function, but that doesn’t mean they should be used in every case. Our chiropractors use best available evidence and clinical experience, taken into account with patient preference, to formulate the best treatment plan for each individual. This may or may not involve chiropractic adjustments.

Does chiropractic treatment hurt?
Adjustments, as a rule, are not painful. There can sometimes be mild post treatment soreness, particularly in the first phases of treatment, but this will resolve quickly. Placing an ice pack on the affected area for 20 minutes will help speed up this process.
Some soft tissue techniques can be uncomfortable at the time, but most people describe this as a “good pain”, if there is such a thing!

How many treatments will I need?
Prognosis varies dramatically based on a large number of factors. At Worcester Chiropractic Clinic we pride ourselves on using the best available evidence to get you better as quickly as possible. Often patients experience marked relief right from their first visit.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
At Worcester Chiropractic Clinic we understand that when you are in pain an appointment can’t come soon enough. We strive to ensure appointments can be offered same-day, as well as offering evening appointments. Where a same-day appointment cannot be arranged we will do our utmost to see you as soon as possible, usually next day.
We also offer appointments outside of normal operating hours and home visits in genuine emergency cases, although call out charges apply.

I am in pain now, what can I do to relieve my pain before I come in?
Generally speaking, keep moving as much as possible. This is easier said than done, but keeping still allows joints to stiffen up and muscular spasms to increase in severity.
Over the counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatories such as Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are very effective for reducing pain and swelling. Ice packs also provide excellent pain relief, helping by relaxing muscle spasm, calming down nociceptors (pain sensors), and reducing swelling/bruising.
It is important to remember that neither of these approaches will treat the underlying problem, and should not be used for sustained periods of time.

What happens to my records?

I have health insurance, is treatment covered?
Worcester Chiropractic Clinic are registered with most major health insurers. If you are unsure about your current provider, please ask one of our reception staff for advice.
In most cases payment is made as with any other appointment and your insurer will reimburse you upon production of a receipt. Speaking to your insurer prior to booking an appointment will let you know if there are any conditions of remittance.

How much does chiropractic treatment cost?
We try to keep our fees as simple and as transparent as possible. An initial consultation with one of our chiropractors costs £85, which includes treatment where appropriate and any referral letters where treatment is not appropriate. Follow up treatments are £49. The number of treatments required varies from patient to patient. It is for this reason that we do not offer “bulk buy” discounts, free consultations, or “Groupon” discounts, the use of which poses a major conflict of interest to us as medical professionals.

Is chiropractic treatment available on the NHS?
In certain areas of the country. This varies from year to year based on the spending priorities established by regional NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups. Worcester Chiropractic Clinic do not, and have no immediate intentions to, provide NHS treatment. The autonomy we have as a stand alone private practice means we can offer a substantially better service to our patients. By not working within the NHS we are able to offer appointments within 24hrs, have quicker access to advanced diagnostic procedures, and have a much wider range of options for treatment available. It is our aim to maximise the quality of care patients receive and to continue in our position as the region’s leading chiropractic centre.
Please contact us for further information.
Do I need to be referred by my GP?
No. As medically trained primary-care practitioners, chiropractors are qualified to assess and diagnose patients without prior referral. By seeing your chiropractor before your GP you will be able to receive treatment more quickly, and if you need any scans or further investigation rather than treatment your chiropractor can refer you directly for these at the time.

What if chiropractic treatment isn’t what I need?
At Worcester Chiropractic Clinic we will not treat you if we don’t think that chiropractic treatment is the best option for you. At initial consultation we spend approximately one hour investigating the cause of your symptoms and determining the best course of action. This allows us to offer speedy referral should treatment not be indicated. Having been operating for over 30 years, we have a very good relationship with local GPs and consultants, and so can refer you straight to the number one person for the job. We can also refer you for investigations such as MRI or X-Ray where necessary.
